Bill-Free Day calculator

Instructions for the calculator

Start by entering your monthly household income - your salary and any other benefits, and those of anyone else living with you.

Then use the sliders or enter your monthly outgoings in the boxes. If you're not certain of the exact number, have a guess. If you don't spend anything on certain bills, enter zero.

Your expenditure will be added together automatically, and taken away from your income to calculate your own personal Bill-Free Day.

Then you can set yourself a challenge to save money and celebrate an even earlier Bill-Free Day next year!

Use our calculator to find out how long it would take to pay off all your boring bills, so you can use the money that's left for more enjoyable things.

Nobody pays all their bills off in one go of course, but Bill-Free Day is a different way of looking at your outgoings to help you spot the ones that are using up the most of your hard-earned money, so you can keep more cash in your pocket.

3 Have you done the following...

Have you switched your car insurance provider in the last 12 months?
Have you switched your home insurance provider in the last 12 months?
Have you switched your energy (gas/elec) tariff in the last 12 months?

If you switched, your Bill-Free Day could be much sooner:

  • If you switched your car insurance provider, your Bill-Free Day could move to: 27th September*
  • If you switched your home insurance provider, your Bill-Free Day could move to: 19th September*
  • If you switched your energy tariff, your Bill-Free Day could move to: 13th September*

Your current Bill-Free Day is: 3rd October

This means that from this day to the end of the year, whatever you earn is for fun stuff like holidays, treating your loved ones and of course you'll want to save some for Christmas gifts!

* These are illustrative and based on the following figures: 51% of consumers could save up to £279.43 with GoCompare Car Insurance (Consumer Intelligence, 1 to 30 September, 2017, based on a comparison of 29 companies); 51% of consumers could save up to £70.82 with GoCompare Home Insurance (Consumer Intelligence, 1 to 30 September, 2017, based on a comparison of 33 companies); 51% of Energy customers who received a price for switching both their gas and electricity saved £138.51 with GoCompare (1 July - 30 September 2017)
