Aston Martin is a British manufacturer of luxury sports cars, based in Warwickshire.
Part of the Ford Motor Company from 1994 – 2007, Aston Martin was purchased for £479 million in March 2007 by a consortium consisting of Prodrive chairman David Richards and collector John Sinders along with Investment Dar and Adeem Investment. Ford retained a significant stake, valued at around US$70 million.
On 1st September 2008 Aston Martin announced the revival of the Lagonda marque. Although the concept car will debut in 2009 to coincide with the brand’s 100th anniversary, the first production cars will not be available until 2012. Reviving the Lagonda brand will allow Aston Martin to develop cars that are more versatile than the sports cars currently produced by the company, thus giving them wider reach in both existing and emerging markets.
Aston Martin has, of course, always held a prestigious heritage and has long been associated with 007 James Bond. The iconic Aston Martin DB5 was used in a number of movies including Goldfinger (1964) and Thunderball (1965), with other Aston Martins making cameo appearances too - such as the V8 Volante and Vantage in The Living Daylights (1987) and the Vanquish in Die Another Day (2002). The latest movie, Quantum of Solace (2008), features the new DBS.
Interestingly the DB initials found on so many of the Aston Martin models is used in reference to Sir David Brown who bought the company after the Second World War.
