The Chrysler Motor Company has been at the forefront of the American automotive industry since its creation in 1925. Throughout Chrysler’s history, the company has always tried to be as inventive as possible, leading the way with new technologies to better the automotive industry as a whole. In fact Chrysler was the company that invented a safety wheel with a ridged rim that stopped the tyre coming off when deflated. Chrysler was also the first company to implement Unibody construction (a production technique now used worldwide).
In fact Chrysler, along with Ford and Chevrolet, was one of the companies to give birth to the American muscle car generation. In vast contrast to those gas guzzling machines, Chrysler is now focusing its energies on greener, more environmentally friendly solutions to the world’s transport and pollution issues.
At the 2008 North American International Auto Show held in Detroit, Chrysler and its subsidiary divisions, previewed three concept vehicles that incorporate electric drive technology. Chrysler has also set up it ENVI division and tasked it with producing electric drive and advanced propulsion systems. With this division hard at work, Chrysler announced in September 2008 that it will have electric vehicles in its showrooms by 2010.
