How insurance groups affect car insurance premiums

Insurance group ratings take into account performance, security, damage and parts costs, new car values, availability of body shells and repair costs and times. What you'll typically find is that cars in lower insurance groups cost less to insure, whilst cars in higher insurance groups attract a higher premium - usually because they are high performance models or have high repair or replacement costs.

About Kia

Roughly translated Kia means ‘arise or come up out of Asia’ or ‘rising out of Asia’, a fitting statement considering that in a little over 30 years the company grew to become the second largest car manufacturer in Korea. During the Asian financial crisis the company merged with Hyundai (its rival), to become Hyundai Kia Automotive Group in 1997 and create Korea’s largest car manufacturer.

In 1974, Kia became the first car manufacturer to create a car fully built in Korea. 12 years later Kia formed a partnership with Ford and started to realise its dream of rising out of Asia. Through this partnership Kia started making cars derived from Mazda designs which were then sold under the Ford marque. This continued until 1994 when Kia Motors America was established.

The reason for Kia’s success over the years has been that it has targeted consumers who appreciate good value for money, as most Kia models are priced below other manufacturers’ counterpart models. One aspect of this good value for money offering is in Kia’s confidence in its own reliability. In fact all Cee’d and Sportage models now come with a seven year or 100,000 mile warranty.
