When the Multipla first appeared there were those who loved it and those who hated it. That was because of the looks, not the practicality or drivability of the car. For a start, the Multipla is a six-seater, a concept taken up by the likes of the FR-V from Honda. Two rows of three seats mean that not only can six people fit in easily, there is plenty of room for their luggage, which is not something any seven-seater can boast about.
The middle seat in the front row sits back a little from the rest so that the driver can reach controls and there is more shoulder room, something further helped by the vertical sides. The gearstick is dash mounted to give more room for the front middle passenger.
Basic equipment includes central locking, radio/cassette player, electric front windows and an RDS stereo. A step up and you add climate control, front foglights, alloy wheels, folding door mirrors and a double electric sunroof. Options include Bluetooth hands-free telephone kit, a fridge in place of the middle front seat, and rear parking sensors.
Power comes from two engines: 1.6ltr 16v 103 bhp petrol and a 1.9ltr JTD 105bhp diesel. Consumption is reasonable, emissions not the best and insurance 7-10.
