The tiny Panda has been a favourite for a while. Even more now with some excellent designing. Power comes from a bevy of small engines: on the petrol front, a 1.1ltr developing 54bhp, a 1.2ltr developing 60bhp and a 1.4 developing 97bhp; diesel comes from a 70bhp 1.3-litre turbodiesel. The engines are all noisy when pushed, but the diesel is one of the quietest in this sector. Ride is good for a small car and handling efficient under almost all situations.
Inside, the new stylish interior appears to be of good quality materials and the build is solid. Airbags, ABS and braking force distribution are all standard equipment. The central consol houses the majority of the controls, including the gearchange. The driving position is high, but it does give an excellent view and is helped by a height adjustable steering wheel.
The height of the Panda ensures plenty of headroom back and front, but legroom is tight in the back. The boot is small, but there is a split seat at the back, which is optional on all but top-spec models.
Prices are comparable to the competitors, fuel economy unsurprisingly good and emissions average. Insurance again unsurprisingly at the bottom end of the groupings.
