The Stilo is Fiat's effort to take some of the 'Ford Focus' market and a good effort it is too. Powered by two petrol engines (1.4ltr and a 1.8ltr) and a diesel (1.9ltr), the car is in fact two, with the three and five door versions sharing only lights and grill. The five door is a spacious family car, the three-door a sporty motor for the young at heart. However, the steering and suspension provide a ride that is a little behind the competitors.
The interior is light, particularly with the full roof 'sky window'. It is also reasonably well trimmed, but maybe not to the standard of some of the better-known rivals. However, compared to some high-quality cars of ten years ago it is extremely good.
Safety equipment is average with many options, such as stability control, chargeable. With all the adjustments of steering wheel and driver's seat, a good driving position is achievable for almost every shape of driver.
The five door is the most spacious in this category. Head and legroom are generous, and the folding table on the back of the front passenger seat only slightly reduces rear knee room. The boot is also spacious and can be extended by a 60/40 split rear seat. The more sporty three-door isn't as tall, which restricts the space inside and makes it less suitable for families.
