Ever since Ford brought out the XR2, the Fiesta has been high on the list of favourite hot hatchbacks. Those who couldn't afford the car or the insurance would buy a more practical model and tart it up to look like the original hot beast. Although other cars have taken over the top spot for the hottest hatch over the years, the Fiesta remains a popular choice in all its guises. With engines ranging from 1.2 to the 2.0ltr 16V ST, there is something for everyone, with even the smallest engines sufficiently powerful for around town. Motorway driving benefits from the turbo-diesels, which have that extra punch low down in the engine speeds for better overtaking.
The ride tends to be hard, but this is more than compensated for by excellent handling. The Fiesta is not the most refined of cars, with road and wind noise featuring highly on all models. Ford's old reputation of shoddy workmanship has disappeared over the years, with the Fiesta sharing good solid build quality with the majority of other Ford cars. Insurance ranges from a Category 3 for the 1.2 to a whopping Category 13 for the ST. An all round family car for the town dweller.
