Honda ACCORD car insurance quotes and insurance groups

It is difficult to find where the Accord fits into a market sector. It is better than something like the Peugeot 407, but nowhere near the BMW 3-Series. Add to this that the Mondeo is plusher and the problem becomes clearer. This is a shame as the car is an excellent piece of engineering and reasonable value for money.

Power comes from a range of three engines: a 2.0ltr producing 153bhp, a 2.4ltr producing 187bhp and a 2.2-litre diesel producing 138bhp. Gearboxes are either 5- or 6-speed manual or a 5-speed auto.

Although the car is not an exhilarating drive, it is far from boring. The brakes are smooth, the steering precise and the gear-change slick. Driving position is excellent and controls well laid out and logical.

The Accord gets a decent four out of five stars for passenger safety and even two stars for pedestrian safety. As standard comes anti-lock brakes, brakeforce distribution and stability control. At the top of the range comes a system that applies torque to the steering wheel to nudge the car back on to the straight and narrow if the driver's attention has drifted, and adaptive cruise control, which stops the car getting too close to the vehicle in front.

Fuel economy is good, but CO2 emissions from the petrol engines push the car into higher company car tax brackets. Insurance groups are low at 11-14 and Honda servicing is well priced.
