Honda FR-V car insurance quotes and insurance groups

Never willing to do things the normal way, Honda have tipped a toe in the water of the small MPV with the FR V, which is a 6 seater with only two rows of seats in the style of the Fiat Multiplas. Built for the family, the centre seat in the front is going to be very attractive for children who desperately want to sit up front, but can't because a parent is there. The centre seat in both rows moves back so that the three passengers are not shoulder to shoulder, a boon in the front where the driver could get squashed. As a family car, safety is a priority and the FR V scores 4-stars for passenger safety, 3 for pedestrian and 4 for child.

Power choice comes from a 1.7ltr and 2.0ltr petrol engine and a 2.2ltr diesel from the Accord. The FR V is based on an elongated CR V chassis and the long wheelbase and wide track give the car a feeling of security and stability. Probably the only bone of contention is the gearboxes...5- or 6-speed manuals (there is no automatic option). The 5-speed is a little too low-geared, especially if used on the motorway, and the 6 a little too highly geared.

Engine and road noise are almost non-existent, but wind noise is an issue with both windscreen and wipers causing turbulence. Build quality is good and interior is rugged and attractive if not refined.

Consumption is reasonable and the FR V is one of the first to come with Honda's prepay servicing, which should keep costs down. Insurance groups 8-11.
