Mercedes E CLASS car insurance quotes and insurance groups

The E-Class has been a mainstay of the Mercedes range since the 50s, although not called the E-Class specifically back then. Unfortunately, of late there have been reliability issues particularly with the electronics, which became increasingly prevalent. To prevent their customer base from moving lock, stock and checkbook to rivals such as BMW, Mercedes have had to come up with something special and they have spent $6 billion, driven millions of miles and have made 2000 technical changes to do it.

Power units range from a supercharged 2.0ltr, through normally aspirated 2.8Ltr, 3.5ltr, 5.0ltr to 6.0ltr (AMG), or the 2.2ltr, 2.8ltr and 3.2ltr diesels.

Build appears to have improved drastically, both outside and in. The driver's seat is fully electrically adjustable as is the steering column, so a comfortable driving position is easy to find. Control of the peripherals is through Mercedes' COMAND console, which needs time to become acquainted with.

Brake technology has changed of late and the criticisms aimed at the older E-Class have been answered by a new system, which includes electronic parking brake and a hill start assistant.

The E-Class has five stars for passenger safety, but only one for pedestrian safety. In addition to Mercedes' Pre-safe and the even newer Neck-Pro (prevents whiplash), the E-Class has incorporated a number of significant changes to the lighting: brake lights flash if braking is particularly hard and the rest of the lighting adjusts according to weather and driving conditions.
