The Colt is a collaboration between Mitsubishi and Daimler Chrysler and a far cry from the previous generations of the marque, which were designed for those looking for a sporty car. The new model seems to have been aimed at those looking for style more than anything.
Two body styles are available (3-door and 5-door) with four engine choices: 1.1ltr, 1.3ltr and 1.5ltr petrol and 1.5ltr diesel. Gearboxes come as 5-speed manual or 6-speed AllShift AMT automated manual, yet another name for a sequential box.
All in all, an adjective that comes up frequently for the Colt is adequate. The ride and steering are both adequate, but not exhilarating or engaging. Noise reduction too is adequate, but the 1.3 and 1.5 petrol units sound rough and unpleasant when pushed hard.
Build quality is good and the interior materials are better than on previous models. There is plenty of space for four adults, but although there are many ways to move or remove the rear seats completely or in part, luggage space is limited. Driving position is adequate with height only adjustment on the steering column and the driver's seat adjustment limited. The dash is uncluttered with controls where you would expect them.
Running costs are low with good economy, low emission and insurance in groups 5-10.
