The 350Z is Nissan's sport flagship. And it has been given a few significant changes, notably a bulge in the bonnet that is there for a reason and not just for cosmetic reasons. The engine, despite being 3.5ltr as of old, is bigger - 8mm bigger, so necessitating a bulge to accommodate it. Now the engine develops 309bhp at 6,800rpm and freely revs to its 7500rpm red line. The suspension has also been tuned and now provides firm ride without any compromise in the precise steering and feel.
Traction control keeps the car in line even after driver error, but it can be switched off so that the full power can be used to provide a huge sense of excitement on winding roads. The brakes have been improved to increase efficiency and at the same time add feel and adjustability.
The interior has also been improved with new controls and console. The seats are more comfortable and generally there is plenty of space for the two passengers. However, a stress bar joining the two rear suspension struts seriously reduces the already limited boot space.
Initial cost is high, but reduced availability should keep residual values high. Running costs are high with average consumption in low 20s. Carbon emissions are also high, pushing it to the highest bands of company tax. Insurance is group 19.
