The Murano is one of Nissan's many 4X4s and suffers from the fact that people are reticent to pay this sort of money for something under the Nissan marque, which is a bonus for those who don't mind having other 4-wheel drivers grinning behind their hands.

Power is provided by the 3.5ltr petrol engine from the 350Z, which conveys its horsepower to the wheels via a continuously variable automatic box. This has the benefit of keeping the engine revs at a level to give maximum torque, but does give a feeling that the car has major clutch-slip. Power is applied to the front wheels first while they have grip and only when they start spinning is it gradually applied to the rear wheels to a maximum 50/50 split.

The performance is adequate and the ride good over almost any terrain. But Nissan's problem is that this doesn't differ significantly from any other 4X4. What they need is to capture a new market of those who like the space of an estate, but desire something more. And the Murano can satisfy that market. There is a huge amount of space, with large drivers easily accommodated and large rear passengers able to climb in behind them. Equipment is prolific with colour sat nav and reversing camera.
