The Nissan Note is a great alternative to the Vauxhall Meriva and Renault Modus -- and significantly larger -- it's fun to drive, well equipped and cheap to run. The only downside is that it is more expensive to purchase than these other cars.
The Note's strength lies in the space it provides a small family. Four people can travel easily with plenty of legroom in the back. Wind and road noise are well-suppressed, but engine noise with either petrol or diesel engines, can intrude at higher revs. Interior trim is on the utilitarian side, but feels as though it will take the punishment.
There is the usual standard of safety equipment, although stability control is only offered on the high-end versions. Security is good.
Anyone who has driven a Micra will recognise the dash...the Notes is almost identical. The driving position is comfortable, but the steering wheel adjusts for height only.
Levels of space are excellent, with many little cubbyholes for the detritus of family travel. The rear bench is on rails so that it can be moved back and forth allowing a balance to be made between legroom and luggage space.
Equipment levels are average and insurance is in the range groups 4 to 6.
