Nissan PATHFINDER car insurance quotes and insurance groups

Nissan's Pathfinder is a 4X4 from the old school. Cheaper than many of its rivals, the car is a true off-roader, able to take the punishment such driving dishes out to a car.

It only comes in two engine configurations: a 2.5ltr diesel and a 4.0ltr petrol. The diesel is the one to go for although neither could be described as quiet or refined. The optional five-speed auto box is adequate, but a touch too slow to change up a notch. Although engine noise can be intrusive, wind and road noises are not, which is a pleasant surprise on such a large vehicle.

Space is ok, but the rear-most seats are only suitable for children unless the journey is very short.

As with most 4X4s, running costs are high. The diesel returns around 30mpg and is in the insurance groups 13-16. However, the thing is built to last and is as rugged as it needs to be for a life of harsh use.

Driving position is ok, with adjustable seat and height-adjustable steering. There is plenty of space in the cabin, although some rivals offer more. Folding down the third row seats provides a huge boot.
