Nissan's offering in the Mondeo and Vectra sector, the Primera is one of those cars that despite its external looks, offers little in the way of excitement.

But that doesn't mean that it hasn't a place. Although the design is eye-catching, in practical terms there is a lot of 'average' about the car. Interior space is adequate and boot space is deep, but not high. Controls are easy to read and reach with radio controls duplicated on the steering wheel, but the central consol is not to everyone's taste and can make reading the dials awkward on the move. The driving position is very upright, but does give a good view. Because looking behind is a little restricted, reversing is aided in the higher spec cars by a colour camera, which communicates images to a screen on the dash. The body is tall, surprisingly, so there is a lot of headroom in the car. Leg room is also generous back and front.

Bottom of the range is the S, which has electric front windows, climate control, trip computer, hands free telephone compatibility, heated and electrically adjusted wing mirrors, and a six-speaker CD radio system. Going up to an SE gives a rear parking camera, rear electric windows, 16-inch alloy wheels, auto dimming rear-view mirror and rain sensing wipers.
