Nissan sell more Terranos in the UK than Landrover do Discoveries. And maybe the reason for that is that Nissan have so many 4X4s in their range that there is something for everyone and each can be better focused towards a particular market niche. The Terrano is aimed at those who really need a car that is going to feel just as at home in the mud than on the Tarmac.
Now with a 3.0ltr diesel lump, the Terrano has all the power you would need both on-and off-road. It tows well and works with either the manual or automatic boxes. The Terrano is light and maneuverable so doesn't have the problems of the bigger 4X4s around town. Solidly built, there are the standard features for protecting the occupants. Braking distribution and perimeter alarms are now standard. For a 4X4, the running costs are reasonable, servicing benefits from inexpensive parts and the insurance is in groups 10 - 15.
As said, ride on road is a little choppy, but sound insulation is good. Space is sufficient for five adults, but the two seats in the back are for the little 'uns only. Without them, luggage space is good.
