Even without looking at the opposition, the 607 doesn't meet the minimum requirements of a large luxury saloon. Compare it to the opposition like the BMW 5-Series and you wonder why Peugeot bothered.
There are three power units: a 2.0ltr diesel, a 2.2 ltr twin-turbodiesel and a 3.0 ltr V6 petrol.
The ride is good, which is the only really good thing to say about this large car. Steering is dull at best and positively lifeless at speed. OK, the noise suppression is good, but this is a large luxury car, so if it hadn't been there would have been serious questions to answer.
Build quality is unsurprisingly good and there is a whole range of safety and security equipment, not that you need the stability control. Interior design is more stylish than the exterior, but it appears that ergonomics were not brought into play as there appears to be no logic behind the positioning of controls.
Front passengers may feel that leg room is limited and rear passengers will feel a little too close to the roof. The boot is cavernous and would probably be a great alternative to the cabin if it had seats in it.
