Porsche CAYENNE car insurance quotes and insurance groups

At first look, it seems incongruous to have Porsche produce a great lump of a car like the Cayenne. That is until you drive it. Because despite the size of the car and the use for which is was designed, it still feels like a sports car, unlike almost every other 4X4 ever produced. One of the major criticisms of these big cars is the ride over flat roads, with bumps and wallowing ride. Well, the Cayenne has all that licked - even without with Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control and air suspension. There is also an anti-roll system that anticipates and reduced body movement during cornering. For those who seriously want to off-road, there is an off-road pack incorporating a lockable rear diff, skid plates, engine bay guard and extra protection for the fuel tank. The Cayenne is fitted with a low-range gearbox as standard.

Sitting behind the wheel you could think you were behind the wheel of a 911 or Boxster, just a bit higher in the air. But whereas a 911 is expected to feel like a sports car, the Cayenne will be compared to the likes of the Range Rover Sport and doesn't match well.

The six-cylinder engine in the Cayenne is shared with Volkswagen. When it was first introduced the engine was a 3.2ltr producing 250bhp. The latest version of the Cayenne uses a new Volkswagen-sourced 3.6ltr engine developing 290bhp. Six-speed manual gearboxes are fitted as standard in the Cayenne and Cayenne S, but many owners will choose the optional six-speed automatic.
