The Espace is still the one to beat as far as people carriers are concerned. Big, roomy and comfortable, just what a bus should be. This is where the French penchant for soft, smooth rides comes in and there are few better.
Although expensive, the car has that feel of luxury and is equipped to match. Unfortunately, previous versions of the Espace had reliability problems, so the newer one has that to overcome. However, it is now made by Renault and not by a third party manufacturer, albeit French, so things may change.
On the road, the Espace is a pleasure to drive, if not exciting. The thick seats and adjustable steering allow for a good driving position, while a range of engines, including a 3.0ltr V6, provides plenty of power. Despite the soft ride, the car corners well. Instruments are good as is the visibility.
As with most MPVs, the rear seats are adjustable, folding and removable, providing a cavernous luggage area.
The Espace is another car to achieve 5-stars in the collision testing and security wise it is excellent. All models come with split zone airconditioning, but you need to step up to the higher spec models for climate control, sat nav and leather trim. Insurance groups 11 - 16.
