Renault MEGANE car insurance quotes and insurance groups

The Renault Megane has a number of renowned rivals, including the VW Golf and Ford's Focus. But it appears that Renault is taking on the opposition using innovative design, gadgets, safety and yes, gadgets.

The design is one of those you love or hate...advertising has done a lot to bring the strange rear design to a point nearing cult status, with lots of innuendos concerning rear ends. A confusion also exists because the 3 and 5-door versions look so different. There are some fine internal touches as well, like simply making the gear lever longer and bringing it closer to the steering wheel for quicker control. As far as safety is concerned, the Laguna was the first of its type to get a 5-star crash rating, so Renault were pretty confident they could get it for the Megane too. Gadget-wise the Megane bristles with them, like a U-shaped handbrake, which allows for more storage between the seats, and metal airbags under the front seats that raise the seat so that passengers don't slip under the seat belts.

The power steering is electric and is intended to be speed sensitive, giving assistance at low speeds, but less the faster you go.

Power is delivered by a range of engines including 1.4 ltr and 2.0 ltr petrol engines and 1.5 ltr and 1.9 ltr turbodiesels. Top of the range engine-wise is the turbocharged 2.0ltr unit, which develops 165bhp. Insurance ranges from groups 3 to 11.
