Probably the best sports roadster around. For once, a car has been designed to be fun to drive. And it is a plaything, because there is little luggage space, so it couldn't be used for a touring holiday for instance, although your briefcase may well fit for a ride to work.
The interior looks suitably sporty and has a traditionally low-slung driving position with a supportive seat. The gear change is slick and smooth and adds to the driving experience.
In its basic form, all the essential equipment is there. Air-conditioning is optional, but redundant with the roof down. Optional extras include a hard top, the chrome roll bar and paddle-operated sequential gearbox.
The car is powered by a 138bhp 1.8ltr engine, which seems pretty small for these days, but is actually more than man enough to move this little car especially if driven hard. The ride benefits from a limited slip differential and super sharp steering.
Because the car has a mid-engine layout, there is no boot, but a small hatch in the front and a box behind the seats. Other little boxes are all right for CDs or a few tissues, but little else.
Safety is pretty basic, with a couple of airbags up front and good brakes.
Good economy and maintenance costs marry with an insurance group of between 13 and 16.
