The Vectra is Vauxhall's Mondeo, with all models coming with air-con, cruise control and CD player. Petrol engines range from an economical 1.8 (which is a tad sluggish) to a 2.8ltr V6 Turbo. There are also 2 diesel variants: 1.9 and 3.0ltr, both turbodiesels. Not quite as big as the Mondeo (tall rear passengers will find leg room cramped), it is, however, a true 5-seater with a boot to match.
The Vectra has always had a good ride, but now Vauxhall have tuned the steering and suspension to give a very sharp drive indeed. Whether these changes have contributed to the lack of noise, we don't know, but something has...the cabin can only be described as hushed, if grey and anonymous. Nothing overly stylish here although the materials used are good. The driving position is good, with adjustable steering and driver's seat.
A good price, good reliability and good safety make this an attractive car. However, even with the comprehensive security kit, the car is relatively easy to break into so that may affect the insurance group...from group 7 to 18.
