The Eos is a convertible Golf, with a difference...the four-seat convertible has one of those metal roofs similar to that introduced by Peugeot and others, but in true German style, Volkswagen have managed to engineer the roof mechanism so that folds the roof into five so leaving a little boot space for luggage as intended, rather than the lumps of metal from the top. This also means that there is really room for four people, not two and the kids.
The build quality is true Volkswagen, but there is a disappointment in the quality of the interior, which doesn't feel quite as refined as the others in the Volkswagen range.
Depending on who you ask, opinion varies on the ride. Volkswagen say that the car was designed as a convertible from the road up, but some reviewers are not convinced that the front and back are connected by anything more solid than silicon sealant. Others say that there is little sign of the usual convertible shimmying. Try and see for yourself.
Engines come in 1.6ltr, 2.0ltr and 3.2ltr V6 and a healthy 2.0ltr diesel. The 1.6 is adequate, but the drive gets more interesting with the 2.0ltr. But even then, the drive is not what a seasoned driver would call exciting.
Although the 1.6 is a group 8, the rest range from 12 to 17.
