The Lupo is a very small car in the vein of the VW Fox, but where as the Fox Is bland, the Lupo can be exciting; mischievous even.
Quality is a given...Volkswagen at its best. But unlike the Fox, the Lupo is not a true four-seater. Treating the Lupo as a two-seater allows the front passengers comfort and frees the back to fit luggage that can't be put into what is laughingly called the boot. Road and wind noise are kept to a minimum, but engine noise, specifically in the 1.0ltr version, is very intrusive.
The driving position is excellent due to adjustments to seat and steering usually provided on the more expensive models. The car can be pushed around corners and the gearbox is slick and smooth to assist in keeping these little engines revving fast.
The best variant is the GTi, which is the most exciting to drive with its six-speed gearbox, sports seats, leather-trimmed sports steering wheel and Xenon headlamps.
Insurance groups are low and range from 2 to 6 except the GTi, which is mischievous enough to warrant an outragous 11.
