What do you do when you have two models doing reasonably well, but not great? You merge them into one, that's what. At least, that is what Volvo did with the C70. The car now appeals to those looking for premium convertibles and compact coupes and satisfies both roles with style. The car has a metal folding roof that can transform the car from a convertible to a 4-seater coupe in under 30 seconds.
The car is well-built with good fit and finish throughout. Interior is finished with good materials and has excellent space, even for rear passengers. However, with the roof down and stored neatly in the boot, there is little room for luggage.
The dash is smart and uncluttered, with all controls clear and concise. Switches have a solid feel as though they are going to last, but this is unsurprising in a Volvo, which tend to build all their cars that way.
The C70 is not an exciting car to drive, although more pleasant than the original version. There is plenty of power, but it is designed as a cruiser, not as a sports car. Economically, the engines are not particularly frugal and insurance in groups16-18.
