Volvo V50 car insurance quotes and insurance groups

The V50 is what Volvo cars are all about. A small family estate, it can seem expensive, but there is a lot that comes with it. However, it is not as practical as Volvo's big estates. The boot is a decent size, but the floor is narrow and many cheaper rivals have more space. There's enough head- and legroom for four adults to sit in comfort, but again, plenty of the competition offers more.

Engines start with a 1.6-ltr and a 1.8-ltr that are adequate but need to be worked hard to get anything out of them. The 2.4ltr petrol is nicely punchy, while the turbocharged 2.5-litre T5 offers a huge 236lb ft of pulling power. There are a couple of diesels including a 1.6ltr, a 136bhp 2.0ltr and the five-cylinder D5.

The cabin is trimmed with good quality materials and like the rest of the car appears to be well built. Quality and reliability have been rated as above average in customer satisfaction surveys.

The V50 is well equipped with even the entry-level S models having cruise control, electronic climate control, front and rear electric windows, remote central locking and 16-inch alloy wheels. Sport models add larger alloys, sportier trim and even firmer suspension, while SE models include leather upholstery, an upgraded stereo system, automatic wipers and an electric driver's seat.
