House prices in the UK fell by 0.2 per cent in April, according to Nationwide. The building society also claimed that values were showing little sign of moving dramatically in any direction. The average price of a UK home is now £165,609. Chief economist at Nationwide, Robert Gardner, said: "In our view, the most likely outcome is that house prices will continue to move sideways or drift modestly lower through 2011." Despite the prices staying still, there has been a slight increase in sales. According to HM Revenue and Customs, there was a 10,000 increase in the number of homes sold during March.
