Parallel parking is one of the trickier skills learner drivers have to master – it requires concentration, spatial awareness and a steady hand.
A cursory glance around any tightly-packed residential street will show that even seasoned road users haven’t quite mastered the skill.
But even the most efficient parallel parker could feel slightly inadequate at the amazing feats of the fabulously-named Ronny Wechelberger, who has recently smashed the Guinness World Record for parallel parking.
Ronny – who also uses the snappy nom de plume ‘Ronny C Rock’ - managed to park a 3.54 m VW Up into a 3.68 m space – he had a margin for error of just 14 cm – that’s 5.51 inches, imperial measurement fans.
The record was previously Han Yue of China who managed 15 cm (5.91 in) at an event held in Beijing, China, on 21 May 2012.
Anyway, you can watch the whole thing ‘kicking off’ as it happened on German telly, right here. It is, we’re sure you’ll agree, rather impressive – although wouldn’t advise trying it yourselves.
