Do I get a discount if I buy my insurance online?
Buying online has a reputation for being cheaper. This used to be the case for the majority
of policies.
The insurance company justifies this discount by arguing that because you don't speak
to their call centre agents, you're not using up their time. And because you're not
using up their call centre agent's time, you can get a cheaper price.
However, some people don't really like to complete their transactions online. They
may not like to give credit card details over the internet, or maybe just want to get
some human interaction to provide verbal reassurance. Either way, many insurance companies
will honour their online discount even if you complete offline.
Please ensure that even if you are happy to buy online and eager not to speak to anyone, if
you have any queries about the policy you are about to buy, pick up the phone and speak
to someone. It may be a chore, but it will be worth it if you discover something that
wasn't quite what you thought it was!
