'£2.2 million wasted through under-inflated tyres'

British drivers are wasting millions every year by not checking their tyre pressure.
This is according to Cooper Tire Europe, which has discovered that under five per cent of vehicles have correctly inflated tyres.
In addition, during cold weather, tyre pressure generally drops, leading to Britons wasting £2.2 million each day at the pumps as under-inflated tyres are less efficient with fuel.
Checks conducted at the company's own tyre fitment centres found that on average, tyres are under-inflated by an average ten per cent less than the level recommended by the manufacturer.
The firm has responded to the findings by urging motorists to check their tyre pressure at least once per month and consider using winter tyres during the colder months.
Meanwhile, TyreSafe has also suggested that drivers use cold weather tyres over the coming months or at least ensure that their wheels are in good condition.
