Police issue car crime prevention advice

Newcastle motorists have been issued with advice that could help them avoid claims on their car insurance policies.
Police in the region have issued the suggestions following a spate of vehicle thefts recently, the News Guardian reports.
While such incidents have fallen across the area by 15 per cent in recent months, some motorists are still taking risks during cold and dark mornings.
"Although there is a continuing drop in motor vehicle related crime in Tyneside and across the force, there are still people who are taking risks, leading to opportunist thieves taking advantage," stated Inspector Don Wade.
He added that some people had been too preoccupied with warming up and de-icing their vehicles and as a result had fallen victim to criminals.
Officers suggest that drivers never leave their keys in the ignition and make sure their vehicle is locked and parked in a busy, well-lit area.
It was recently announced that vehicle crime had fallen across the Hertfordshire borough of Hertsmere, the Borehamwood Times reported.
