Drivers 'must remove valuables to avoid claims'

Drivers in North Tyneside are being urged to preserve their vehicles' safety - and potentially their car insurance premiums - by keeping valuable items out of the view of thieves.
Police in the area are taking a proactive approach to car crime by making a note of all the vehicles they see with items left on display.
The owners of these cars will then be sent literature on how to avid becoming victims of crime.
Detective Inspector Paul Young from North Tyneside Area Command commented: "Thefts from vehicles can be prevented simply by motorists removing valuables out of sight when they park up."
He added that crime across the area is down but the public needs to take some responsibility for ensuring the trend is not reversed.
By working together with the police, people could avoid car insurance claims for damage and stolen goods, the inspector added.
Meanwhile officers in Carmarthenshire are also urging drivers to remove satellite navigation systems from their vehicles following a rise in thefts.
