Britons looking to invest in a new car this year have been informed that March is the best month in which to make the purchase.

With high quality vehicles on the market, it is the time to get good deals on car finance and attractive prices, the Retail Motor Industry's National Franchised Dealers Association has said.

Director Sue Robinson stated: "With the first of the year's number plate changes soon upon us in March, this could be the time to get into a new car."

But the motoring body went on to urge prospective buyers to always read the small print of warranties and look at on the road prices of vehicles, which includes other costs than just the price of the car.

They should also bear in mind that the emissions produced by the vehicle will affect the rate of excise duty they incur.

According to the BBC, buyers of new cars should also be aware that hey will be hit by depreciation, which can be up to 50 per cent of the vehicle's value in the first year.
