Vehicle crime in the Wantage area of Oxford has been reduced by more than 50 per cent in the past year, figures have shown.
The Oxford Mail reports that between April 1st 2007 and January 15th 200, incidents of vehicle interference fell by 65 per cent to 13 in total.
In addition, the number of vehicles stolen over the period fell by 47 per cent, potentially being good news for car and van insurance holders.
The statistics were revealed by Thames Valley Police.
Commenting on the figures, crime reduction officer for Wantage Sarah Merritt said that they came as a result of committed policing.
"It can be attributed to some hard work and dedicated patrols by local officers. Our priority crime team have been targeting known offenders," she said.
According to the Bicester Advertiser, car crime in the area was almost halved in 2003.
