Youngsters taught to avoid car crime

Children in Bradford are being urged to stay away from creating potentially car insurance claim-inducing damage to vehicles in the area.

Youngsters were invited to attend a demonstration at a local recreation centre to see for themselves the dangers of playing with fire.

According to the Bradford Telegraph and Argus, 658 of the 753 car fires in the area last year were started intentionally.

To combat such crime, children saw a car go up in flames and were educated about how rods can shoot out of burning vehicles at speeds of 150 mph.

They were also given free football training as part of the day's events.

"We wanted young people to come along and have fun but go away from the session having got the message - to stay away from car crime," commented community fire safety officer Shiv Singh.

News Shopper recently reported that the Sydenham area of south London had seen four car fires in under a week.
