Motorists offered free windscreen blades to cut accidents

In a bid to reduce accidents and potential car insurance claims, motorists in the UK are being offered free windscreen wiper blades.
A study by Car Parts Direct has shown that British drivers change their blades every 27 months, compared with the Germans who change theirs every 15 months.
In response, the firm is offering online customers a set of new blades to reduce the chance of drivers' visibility being impaired and a potential accident occurring.
Mark Cornwall of Car Parts Direct commented: "The problem in the UK is education. Ten years ago adverts would appear on TV showing the benefits of replacing wiper blades and the safety aspects - but not anymore."
He added that replacing wipers that have worn down is vital to cutting accident rates but suggested that advertising this on television could be too costly for the government or blade manufacturers.
Website WiperBlades.co.uk suggests that blades need replacing when they do not properly clean the windscreen.
