The Audi R8 has been voted MSN Cars Car of the Year, following a poll involving the site's readership.
Car fans, including those with car insurance policies, voted the German car as the most desired vehicle for 2008, with 42 per cent opting for the Audi ahead of other marques.
Ferrari's 430 Scuderia was second with 13 per cent of the vote, while the BMW M3 received 11 per cent of voters in third position.
"The fact that the R8 has been voted Car of the Year by such a sizeable number of MSN Cars readers is another very positive sign that our first ever thoroughbred sports car has really hit the mark with British buyers," said Audi UK's head of public relations, Jon Zammett.
First introduced in 2005, the MSN award has been previously won by the BMW 3-Series Coupe in 2007, the Bugatti Veyron in 2006 and the Aston Martin DB9 in the awards' debut year.
Among the other cars featuring in the top ten was the Fiat 500 (six per cent of votes), which was launched recently with a huge buzz at the London Eye. More than 36,000 votes were cast in the poll.
