Car crime spate in Scunthorpe

A number of vehicle owners in Scunthorpe may have found recently that they needed to make a car insurance claim in the wake of a spate of auto crime.

The Scunthorpe Telegraph reports that 24 vehicles were damaged over the period of a week with car break-ins and thefts taking place.

Of the incidents, nine took place in the Barton-upon-Humber area in one night and are believed to be connected.

Items including satellite navigation systems and CD players were stolen from the cars.

Police spokesman James Cartwright told the publication: "We've seen a number of thefts over recent weeks and it's apparent thieves do not need a second offer to commit car crime."

He added that drivers should not leave possessions unattended in their vehicles.

Police made a similar plea in December after a number of thefts occurred over the festive period, potentially leading people to make car insurance claims.
