Drivers 'should check cover' before heading to Europe

UK drivers are being advised to check their car insurance cover before taking their vehicle with them to Europe.
While motorists with policies will have third party cover when driving in Europe, they may not be comprehensively covered, the AA has warned.
Ian Crowder, public relations manager for the firm, commented: "If you do have an accident when you travel abroad [and you have comprehensive cover], you'll find that
you've got the expense of getting your car removed and so on, which wouldn't be covered by your insurance if you haven't extended your comprehensive cover to drive in Europe."
He added that some insurers provide up to 90 days free comprehensive cover for European driving, but others do not offer this service or may do at a charge.
The RAC Foundation has found that three million British drivers travel to the continent via ferry or the channel tunnel every year.
