The majority of European motorists have been dazzled by the headlights of other vehicles, a study has shown.
According to research by TUV Rheinland, more than half of the 3,000 respondents to a survey said that they had often or very often been affected by the headlamps of others being too bright.
Most drivers said that they tried to overcome the problem by adjusting the position of their rear-view mirror. Meanwhile, twice as many Brits were found to wear sunglasses when compared with their German and French counterparts.
The majority of those questioned were unaware that they could get around the problem by having automatic dimming mirrors fitted.
"What this study shows is that too many motorists are unaware of automatic dimming mirrors and their safety benefits," said Klaus Weibler, managing director of European operations for Gentex, an auto dimming mirror manufacturer.
According to the RAC Foundation, low winter sun can also dazzle drivers, while some motorists may daze others by forgetting to dip their headlamps.
