Drivers 'may save money' by checking faults early

Drivers could save money on car repairs by having minor faults checked out early before they deteriorate further, esure has warned.

Research conducted by the insurer reveals that 71 per cent of motorists have delayed taking their car to a garage despite being aware of a problem with the vehicle.

A further 33 per cent have ignored defects altogether in order to avoid shelling out for what they believe to be expensive maintenance, the survey shows.

And it seems many drivers are putting luxuries before safety, with 44 per cent admitting they would spend money on a holiday or new clothes before getting their car fixed.

Dave Cotterill from KC Auto's, which worked alongside esure to highlight the dangers of defective vehicles, said that as well as compromising safety putting off vehicle checks can significantly increase the eventual cost of repair.

Meanwhile research from Halifax Unsecured Personal Loans shows that drivers are more than willing to spend money on optional extras such as stereos and sat nav systems for their vehicles, with 35 per cent having splashed out on upgrades in the last 12 months.
