Brits agree that mobiles impact badly on driving ability

The majority of Britons believe that using a mobile phone at the wheel affects a motorist's driving ability.
On the anniversary of the penalty change for being caught using a handheld phone behind the wheel, research by the Department for Transport has shown that 90 per cent of people feel that driving skills are negatively impacted upon when the motorist is on the phone.
Road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick commented: "One year on, I am delighted to see that the vast majority of people recognise the dangers of using a mobile when driving.
"However, too many people are still putting themselves and others in danger for the sake of a phone call."
He added that he hoped the anniversary of the penalty increase would serve to remind drivers not to use their phones at the wheel - potentially also helping them avoid a car insurance claim.
On February 27th 2007 the penalty was raised to a £60 fine and three penalty points.
