Government clarifies parking enforcement

UK drivers may be pleased to read that parking enforcement is set to become more transparent under government plans.
The state is to introduce a new framework at the end of March that will ensure that local authorities do not use enforcement to generate cash and are no longer allowed to set targets for the number of tickets to be issued every day.
In addition, motorists - potentially including car insruance holders - will be able to find details on how to appeal against their penalties on the tickets themselves.
Rosie Winterton, transport minister, said: "The government has been quite clear that parking enforcement must be fair, clear, consistent and based on robust evidence - we want to increase public confidence in parking."
To avoid getting a parking ticket, the government suggests that drivers always park fully inside bays, check parking times and do not leave their vehicles by a meter that is out of use.
