Festival-goers urged to name 2nd drivers on insurance

Car insurance holders planning to attend a festival with a second driver need to ensure this is clarified on their policies.

This is according to the RAC, which said that motorists who do not name second drivers on their car insurance policies risk significantly reducing the amount of cover they get.

Spokesperson Erik Nelson pointed out that a driver with comprehensive insurance on their own vehicle would only get third party cover when driving a friend's car.

"There is a lot of misunderstanding about this. If your friend crashes your car - say he puts it into a tree - you are going to face 100 per cent of the bill," he warned.

According to the British Insurance Premium Index from the AA, drivers under the age of 21 are five times more likely to suffer an accident than those aged over 35.

This means that young motorists often find it difficult to be able to afford comprehensive car insurance, according to the insurer.
