Mini cameras used in police clampdown on drivers

Police in North Yorkshire are making use of mini spy cameras to clamp down on careless motorists in the region.
The cameras are being fitted to police motorcycle helmets in a bid to capture evidence of drivers travelling recklessly,
the York Press reports.
Conducted in partnership with the 95 Alive Road Safety Partnership, the operation will see footage used to make sure
dangerous drivers are punished for their behaviour - something that could have an impact on their car insurance premiums.
The campaign follows a successful road safety operation that saw nearly 4,000 drivers netted over a three-month
period for offences such as using a mobile phone while driving and failing to wear a seatbelt, according to
the York Press.
Meanwhile, police in York are currently targeting motorists who illegally use a phone at the wheel as part of the
government's Think! campaign.
"I find it astonishing that despite its introduction over four years ago, the increase in fixed penalty fines
and widespread publicity drivers still fail to obey the law," commented acting North Yorkshire Police Inspector
John Wilkinson.
