Credit crunch 'could make motorbikes attractive to drivers'

Concerns over the state of the economy could lead car owners to consider a motorcycle instead, it has been claimed.
According to the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCIA), the combination of high petrol costs, rising household bills, increasing tax levels and the global credit crisis could prompt drivers to look to two-wheelers as a way of saving money.
The MCIA's Craig Carey-Clinch said that powered two-wheelers can also be more environmentally-friendly than cars, as well as easier to park.
"Time wasted in congestion, expensive and uncomfortable public transport, high parking and congestion charges and the massive costs of car ownership make a moped, scooter or motorcycle increasingly attractive," he remarked.
More than 144,000 two-wheelers were registered in the UK last year, according to MCIA statistics.
