Survey: Fewer men fix their own cars

Fewer male drivers are dealing with car problems themselves, according to a new poll.

The survey by Castrol found that 14 per cent of men try to solve engine troubles themselves, with three-quarters preferring to turn to a professional - even for basic maintenance tasks.

Nearly nine in ten women said they would also look elsewhere for help, including their partners, rather than try to fix issues on their own.

Furthermore, over half of respondents indicated that they do not know whether they are using the correct oil for their vehicles.

"While past generations took pride in their cars and spent hours keeping them in tip-top condition, men appear more inclined now to pop to the garage or visit a drive-through car wash," commented Rob Stroud of Castrol.

Earlier this year, research by esure found that up to 23 million motorists delay taking their vehicles to the garage, despite knowing that there is a fault with their cars.
