'Now is the best time to buy a used car'

Drivers in the market for their next vehicle have been advised that now may be the best time to purchase a used car.

According to EurotaxGlass's, the registration plate change last month has resulted in more used cars coming onto the market, helping to push prices down.

With the ongoing credit crisis beginning to impact on consumers' finances, this may therefore be the ideal time to think about purchasing a second-hand vehicle, the organisation said.

Adrian Rushmore, managing editor at EurotaxGlass's, said he believed used car prices will fall by a minimum of three per cent on average over the course of May.

"The choice of cars on offer is greater than at any point so far this year and the post-Easter period marked a significant downward shift in retail activity," he remarked.

"This has meant the balance of bargaining power has shifted in favour of the prospective buyer."

Earlier this year, EurotaxGlass's released poll findings suggesting that used car buyers are willing to pay a premium for vehicles registered between March and August as they are better able to pinpoint the age of the motor.
